Linking up with Jessica over at Fantastically Average this lovely and freezing Friday!

So this amazing song is from the late 90's but I'm just now stumbling upon it!  It's called Christmas cookies by George Strait.  My husband heard it once and is now pretty much constantly belting it out and he tries to wink at me while he's singing it's embarrassing to watch really but still so cute lol he loves it because I am Always making Christmas cookies I do actually make them year round I can't really help it...anyway enjoy this most awesome song!

Sick on a Tuesday

Being sick is not fun, I remember someone *not sure who I can't remember that little detail* once told me being sick when you're pregnancy is So much worse than being sick when you aren't pregnant...whoever you are that told me that...you were like 110% right.  Just thought you should know.  I'm not sure why it's worse it just Is.  It all started this weekend Friday night my little brothers *AKA the terror twins* were switching off coughing every 5 minutes this continued till Saturday then the runny noses started and constant sleeping *the last part I was kind of ok with me...evil sister that I am* and Sunday they were better and Monday was amazing for them, today they are at school.  But you see around Sunday I started blowing my nose like a crazy person, hunting for cough drops because my throat felt so stinking itchy and feeling all around pretty much like crap.  Yesterday was so much worse, yesterday I slept a lot.  And it was a rough night's sleep last night *please pity my husband who gets up at like 4:30 usually for work*.  Of course I'm a little more worried with this cold because I'm pregnant but I decided that by Thursday if I'm not better I will be headed to the doctor bright and early Friday morning.  Why wait so long you ask?  Because Tuesday has me feeling a lot better actually.  I'm super surprised I thought death would be poking his head in and asking to borrow a cup of sugar if yesterday was any indication of my health.  But no, I still have a scratchy throat but I'm not feeling exhausted and my nose is now simply plugged up instead of running 5xs the speed of light.

So I'm thinking of making up the muffin mix for Husband's breakfast tomorrow so all I have to do is pop them in the oven, probably make his lunch and have it in the fridge waiting for him for tomorrow as well, go over a to-do list or two, and make some homemade chicken noodle soup for dinner along with some grilled ham and cheese sandwiches.  I am a little sad because I wanted to decorate for Christmas but I'm still not feeling as good as I'd like so I'm putting it off I refuse to not enjoy decorating as much as humanly possible.  I hope I remember to take it easy though, because that is gonna get me better faster than anything.  And when I'm sick the hardest thing for me to do is just chill out.  I want to be Doing things!  Getting things done and crossing them off the to-do list!  ...But I'll try and tone it all down a bit because Hopefully Thursday will be Christmas tree day for the Powers-Lester families!

Does sickness spread like wild fire in your house to?  My dad just came waking in like a zombie coughing so I gave it to him I'm thinking.  Do you have your tree up?  Have a happy Tuesday!

Questions for Christmas

linking up with the fabulous Jane today for a Christmas type post to hopefully make me a little more Jolly than I have been as of late!

When do you start decorating for Christmas? usually on my birthday *Dec. 8th* we get the tree and that's usually it for mom's house.  This year we're getting the tree almost a week later but mom's house is pretty much decorated in every room and has been since the week after Thanksgiving *I couldn't help myself it's the first year husband is experiencing Christmas with us* and my house will be decorated sometimes this week when I'm feeling better!

Christmas attire, casual or dressy? Definitely Dressy!  I mean it's Christmas!  If there is ever a time to pull out a faux fur collar and put sparkles on everything it's the 25th of December!

Best gift you ever received? OOOOH!  This is super hard...I'm going to say either my wedding ring *we were married on December 24th* or a phone call from my husband in Afghanistan on Christmas wayyy early in the AM *as usual* and just knowing he was safe.

Worst gift you ever received? Well it was actually the same Christmas I got the call from my husband, I had helped my Grandma get gifts for my cousins and she totally forgot about me because she was used to getting us all our stuff at once...so she got me a pack of crappy pens LOL.

Snow, love or hate?  LOVE but that's probably because it doesn't snow where I live or at least not usually so it's still fun and different to me but if it was all the time I think I'd get tired of it.

Favorite Christmas song? Least favorite? My favorite would be Burl Ives singing 'Silver and Gold' my least favorite would be any song on my husband's 'redneck christmas' CD

Best Christmas movie? Worst? ooooh the best would be A White Christmas the worst would be the forgotten toys...just because it was so sad!

Christmas tree, real or fake? always real!

Do you have a favorite ornament? I have a couple actually they're glass and an odd shape and they're red and white striped like a candy cane with a little glitter sprinkled on them!

Family traditions? we always get PJs for christmas eve, my Grandma does a cheap and tacky grab bag on Christmas day and she thinks it's the greatest lol we kids like to have a contest to see who can pick the worst stuff, and my dad gets his family weird dollar store presents for Christmas day there's like 20 of us and we either get silly strong or those glasses with the fake noses and mustaches and then take a pic!

The easiest and hardest people to buy gifts for? Husband is the hardest and my mother is the easiest!

Do you open presents Christmas Eve or Christmas? usually only PJ's from the parents then presents from my mom's parents on Christmas eve, everything else Christmas day!

Clear or colored lights? our tree now is always colored someday I think we'll try clear, if we do any outside lights though they're always clear!

Travel or stay home? the farthest we travel *and I ever want to* is 10miles to my grandparent's so I guess you could say stay home lol!  Actually this year it's all at our house so we are staying home!

Themed or homey decorations? Mom's house is always homey, I decorate Grandma's house in a theme *red* , and our house this year is a theme *silver and gold* I think it'll always depend on the year!

before Easter

Easter

Easter is tomorrow, and I have yet to make the most crucial Easter decision.  You see in my family it is NOT about what you wear, it's NOT about who you bring, or even what time you show up.  In my loving, amazing, conservative, southern baptist, country family...it is about what dish you bring.  What is your contribution to the Easter meal *and in true Southern Baptist form we have a potluck*.  That is the question that will not only be asked with words, but also the shrewd eyes will be watching and waiting to see what dish you set down on the table *God forbid you come empty handed*.

Our Easter's have been the same for many years.  The family, and a select few neighbors and friends show up around 1 o'clock and we all head on down to the creek and set up chairs, tables, and sit down the tailgates of trucks...and then Grandpa *now one of the uncles or cousins does it* would say the prayer, and everyone would eat.  The kids will swim in the creek, then later there's an Easter egg hunt.

But the main event is something the men are utterly oblivious to, they think the food is simply there to enjoy?!  HA!  They are so blind.  No, it is an expert means of judging the female population of the family.  So as I'm part of the 'new generation bringing a dish so I'm especially watched.  Now there is a lot of pressure, especially because at family gatherings I usually do pretty good and bring home an empty dish. The choice this year is hard though...do I make that recipe I just saw in a magazine? A recipe I made years ago that was a huge hit that I haven't made in awhile? A family classic my grandmother passed down to me?

There is a problem with all these choices. How do I know if the new recipe will turn out good? The recipe everyone loves? There's a neighbor lady who makes it and she may come and having the same dish as someone...it's just not an option. And the problem with the recipe my grandmother made is that I will NEVER be able to make it as good as she did. *and even if I did nobody could actually say it because she's grandma*

The 3 big fears when making a dish
1) Nobody eats any of it
                                2) You make the same thing as someone else
   3) Someone is allergic to it

The 3 things you desperately want to happen
1) it to be completely or at least mostly gone when it comes time to leave
                       2) Someone to ask around who made it while waving a forkful and going this is SO good *and you can nonchalantly go 'Oh that was me, how was it? something new I just whipped up*
                       3) All the women to simultaneously compliment your cooking and give you the stink eye because they're watching their weight and you just blew that all to hell.

I'm thinking of going with a wild card this year, but I'm very nervous.  Wish me luck!  What do you do for Easter?  Do you cook something?  How do you decide?  Have a very wonderful Easter!
